Arf! Arf! I’m April!

Hello!  My name is April and I am almost 11 weeks old!  I am training to be a Canine Assistants’ service dog and one day hope to graduate and be donated to someone so that I can help with their physical disabilities.  I am sponsored by the Alpharetta Junior Woman’s Club and named after their first President, April Gaffney.  What an honor – I hope I can live up to her example of service to the community.  School starts early for us – the day after you are born!  I am learning all sorts of commands – when I am a bit older, I will be able to open doors, turn on lights, and carry things.  But for now, I ! am focusing on sitting, going up and down stairs, and learning good manners out in public.  I was assigned to my foster Mom, Karen, this week and she has already taken me out
twice!  I love going out in public – everyone we meet is so friendly and says things like “Ooh” and “Awh”.  I have also learned that I should settle in the back seat of Karen’s car with all the toys instead of trying to climb everything, including her head, while she is driving.
